The Challenge

Manhattan Mini Storage has been making New Yorkers’ lives easier for 38 years, and for 6 years Gorilla has been continuing to simplify an access to purchase paths on the website.

Besides optimisation of the purchasing process, our task was to adapt the new website version to the current devises used by clients for navigating on the website and to make use of geolocalistion for making search for the closest storehouse easier.

Additionally, we had a task of extending API, connecting the website with the client’s internal systems of the ERP class. That was to allow for verification of storing space availability in any client’s facility and sending customers’ data directly to the reception desk staff in each facility and to drivers responsible for transport between a storehouse and a user who ordered transport on the website.

The e-commerce platform we have designed and implemented is easy to operate. The whole procedure has been made as easy as possible so that unnecessary items do not distract users’ attention and the interface is perfectly adapted to the displayed screen no matter whether a PC, tablet or smartphone is used.

Basing on the postal code or geolocation, the platform identifies an area interesting to a user and suggests an unoccupied storehouse in that area.

Use of other search filters makes it possible for users to choose such features as opening hours, air-conditioning availability, level at which storage space is located or even extra-wide doors or height of a storage room.

Responding to the users’ needs, we have developed such visualisations, which help to estimate what items could be stored in individual spaces.

The process of booking rooms itself has been reduced to the minimum – a customer has just to present their basic contact data to book their space, other data required for starting the service may be completed at the next step of the online form or already on site, at the time of transporting things for storing.

The website has been also integrated with the review platform.

To develop the website we used the Microsoft Server platform along with the Internet Information Services, for which we have developed our own in-house CMS basing on ASP.NET. For presenting the visual part of the website, apart from HTML 5 and CSS 3 we also used jQuery and Twitter Bootstrap.

Technology used:

I worked with Gorilla Agency on the complete redesign and development of a website for one of our brands, and was very pleased with the team's quality of work as the project progressed through strategy, design, and development phases. With me based in New York and Gorilla overseas, their flexibility and responsiveness was crucial to a strong working relationship and a successful project.
